As I said in a previous blog, most of my songs are not real life. But this tribute song about my Uncle Clarence "Bud" Clark, who served in WWII, is.basically true.
On this Veterans Day, we thank all who have served their country. And those who have made sacrifices to provide and secure the freedoms we enjoy today. Heaven forbid we ever take them for granted.
Bud’s Song
Digital Music File
He was born in 1918 Lived three score and eighteen years I got there just in time to say good bye But did he hear And when I said I loved him Did he know that it was me Guess I’d just as soon remember How he used to be
Back when they said why don't he Take a wife and make a home And I wonder why he lives In that great big old house alone With the ghost of golden memories Where the bricks have turned to dust There’s a helmet hanging on the porch And a gun that’s turned to rust Relics of the hero who returned in ‘45
Surviving war torn Europe And the blazing Paris skies His buddies on the beaches Of old Normandy had died I wonder if he ever wished He’d been there by their side
A thankful family welcomed home Their soldier boy that day God answered prayers And brought him back home to the USA But I’ve heard say He soon became the solitary man There was a girl he would have died for And her name was Mary Ann
Mary Ann was the girl he left behind Her pretty face in worst of times Lay gently on his mind But the cord of love was broken Never to be tried again And you can lay it to the heart of Mary Ann
I wrote a note to leave in his mailbox To say that I would be at Mamas for the holidays And if he could stop by Didn’t know that life and thoughts were draining Like so many grains of sand And I wonder if the last one in the glass was Mary Ann |

I guess many of you were glued to the tube yesterday wondering and worrying about whether that little kid in Colorado was inside that renegade helium filled flying saucer balloon. Fox milked it for all it was worth. Shepard and the other commentators should have known full well that no child could have survived breathing helium. Yet, they yammered on and on about the possibility of the kid being alive inside. Of course, Falcon, the little boy, wasn't in the balloon. He was hiding in a box in the attic....alive and well. Thankfully.
It seems something is amiss about this family So, who knows the truth about the whole bizarre incident. Maybe it was all a hoax.
It occurred to me that there are some interesting parallels between this balloon boy story and the Health Care Reform plans. For starters, both the reform plan and the balloon were/are floating hither and yon, willy nilly. Nobody knows what is in the thing or where it will eventually wind up. And no one knows what may be found once it comes down to earth. Will it be full of nothing but gas or will some innocent die as the result of tragic incompetence? Like the now famous balloon, the Health Care Reform is an amateur experimental construction. It is convoluted, unpredictable and undependable. And at this point only one thing is clear. The proponents of this Health Care Reform are groundless 'loons full of hot air, and as irresponsible as little Falcon's parents seem to be.
Had the little boy been inside that helium filled balloon, it would have been a tragedy. So I say, bring this Health Care Reform balloon down, release all the gas and lets see what's in it.
Just like the Balloon Boy story, I hope the current Health Care Reform plan turns out to be nothing more than a suspenseful flight of a gas filled flying saucer balloon and not a catastrophe. |

I am so happy to hear that Sarah Palin's book, "Going Rogue" is already # 1 at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. And it isn't even available yet. Now that's impressive! I don't believe the MSM has/will acknowledge it, but, of course, that is no surprise. The support for Palin is growing by the day. And if this level of support and urgency for her to run for president is like this now, what will it be in 2012?!
Her face book page is continually filled with ardent/passionate supporters - many of whom have just discovered what she's all about. And many of whom have already ordered multiple copies of her book. Someone suggested that those people purchasing multiple copies might consider sending one to the troops. Great idea, and we must not forget that her son, Track, has served in Iraq.
The increasing admiration for Sarah is nothing short of amazing. And it isn't difficult to understand why the liberals are doing their best to ignore and dismiss her as a joke. The joke just might turn out to be on them. I think the liberals are beginning to realize they may have a tigress on their hands in 2012. Realistically, it is too early to predict, but considering her increasingly passionate support and the public embarrassment of an incompetent and dysfunctional Democratic party, she just may have a shot at the White House in 2012....if she wants it.
My song, "Thunder Rolls" expresses the sentiments of her growing multitude of fans and supporters. Sarah took the time to express her personal appreciation to me in a beautiful Christmas card, bearing Trig's picture. That's just the kind of person she is. And I hope, "Going Rogue" goes viral.

As I was on my evening walk, after a rain, on September 10th, I was thinking of my cousin, Jane Keefauver-Tolley from Erwin, Tenn. who passed away on Sept. 6th. in Johnson City, Tennessee. Jane was a colorful Christian and twin to June Keefauver-Ingram. She belonged to many organizations and owned a business, "Bear Necessities" in the Johnson City Sheraton Hotel for twenty years.
As I was walking and thinking about her life, I looked up to see the most beautiful rainbow in the east I have ever seen. The colors were sharp and it was a complete bow from end to end. I don't recall ever seeing such a perfect rainbow in my life. And to top that, the western sunset was a totally golden blaze. The whole combination was a spectacular joy!
Since this all happened on the evening around the time of Jane's funeral service, I found it wonderfully strange. Someone I told about it called it a, "God Moment"... I think she's right. |

I can't believe Bin Laden is still on the loose. Following 9-11, we were full of bravado and assurance that he would be easily captured. However, that has obviously not been the case. He has recently taunted America again with his tapes. In these new tapes, he boastfully predicts that Obama will have no more success in capturing him or winning the war in Afghanistan than his predecessor, President Bush.
My song, "Ode From the Cave", is a parody (with lots of truth) on how Bin Laden might have felt when the first American troops landed in Afghanistan. He was probably shaking in his sandals.
Digital Music File
You don’t poke your finger in America’s eye If you don’t want a piece of American pie Ain’t no cherries it's only the pits Till you give us Binney we ain’t gonna quit You’ve done tweaked the nose Of the gentle sleeping giant You’ve done pulled the whiskers Of the sleeping gentle lion
He’s an elongated desert horse rat With a heart full of hate and a dirty head wrap He sits in his cave by the candle light Telling Al Qaida boys, “Go out there and fight" That American bunch is everywhere Them sinners are saying we invited them here Oh, boys I think we might have Made a mistake Oh, boys I think we made a big mistake
Chorus: After all we’ve done to those guys They’re still undivided stronger and wise This thing ain’t going according to plan Nobody doesn’t like that President man Oh boys I think we made a big mistake We underestimated the United States
Now the desert’s loud the fritters won’t bake Can’t sleep when everything quivers and quakes I wonder what’s happened to our rag tag band Them Yanks are tearing up the Taliban It’s dark and dank down here in the cave Ain’t seen no sun since their judgment day Oh boysI think we might have made a mistake We underestimated the United States
Well boys it’s gettin’ mighty smelly down here I would venture out if I could change my gear But they'd pick me off like a snow white crow I’m the long tall most wanted man you know Oh, boys, I think we made a big mistake We underestimated the United States
Well, this thing ain’t going according to plan G. W. Bush is determined to win After all we’ve done to those guys We’ve only made them stronger and wise Oh, boys, I think we made a big mistake We underestimated the United States We underestimated the United States”

Like most of you, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on September 11, 2001....watching TV and working out. The horror of that fateful day inspired, "Sudden News" soon there after.
Say what you will about President George W. Bush. But no one can deny that he kept us safe for almost eight years. He realized there is no appeasing terrorists and the other enemies of America. There is no "making nice" or creating sincere dialogue with the breed of human beings that changed America forever on September 11, 2001.
SUDDEN NEWS Digital Music File
Tuesday 9-11 2001 no one will ever forget The devils of darkness descending in planes And the reign of terror they did We watched disbelieving Could this really be happening on American soil?! Out of nowhere they came without any warning On a mission somewhere out of hell
Chorus: Sudden News, Sudden News Has crushed with a blow to our hearts But America’s stronger than ever before You never will tear us apart You’ll never strike fear in the soul of this nation Beware of our man at the helm He’ll deal with you soon But someday you’ll deal With a Power much greater than him
You don’t understand us You hate and condemn our democracy Freedom and friends You seek to divide destroy And deny us our way of life you just can’t stand But you can be sure that our hearts beat as one When it comes to defending our own Your master mad man hides Away hatching plans Where inconceivably evil seeds grow
Sudden news, Sudden news Will crush you and grind you to dust America’s strong her patience is long But you’ve gone far too far Now you must pay for your deeds And your cruel devastation You’ve caused to this country we love You’re led by a mad man who hides out in caves We’re led by a light from above
Sudden news, sudden news Will crush you and grind you to dust But if there’s a doubt That whatever goes ‘round Will come back again, well it does You’ll never strike fear in the heart of this nation Beware of our man at the helm He’ll deal with you soon But someday you’ll deal with A Power much greater than him |

.The lyrics are updated but the music file is yet to be changed http://www.pcbarnett.com/index.php/opinion/342-thunder-rolls
Thunder Rolls
From Wasilla, Alaska like a blazing Northern light Comes a phenom on a mission with the White House in her sight We're talking Sarah Palin here who's unafraid and bold To speak the truth and nowadays that's rare as panning gold
When she burst upon the scene I had my questions About the pretty former mayor in high heels This meteoric mama's world is far from faux o drama Johnny Mac sure had an eye for the real deal
Chorus She's a warm hearted woman from Alaska Corruption and injustice leave her cold This gun totin' mama will make one term of Obama From the White House they can hear the thunder roll
She's a governor, a mother and a woman all the way The main stream media will live to rue the day They set out to destroy her in every way they can But her numbers keep on ticking up While going down for their man
They tried to crucify her with their slander But the truth will always win and heaven knows There's now fear in liberal land The storm is coming and they now can Hear the thunder roll

Elvis Presley's favorite singer was, Jake Hess, lead singer of one of the most famous gospel quartets of all time, The Statesmen. According to Russ Cheatham, author of Calvin Newton's biography, Jake Hess's favorite singer was, Calvin Newton. On the cover of, "Bad Boy of Gospel Music-The Calvin Newton Story", Jake Hess wrote, "Anyone who reads this book and listens to Calvin Newton sing will discover what I have known all along-he is the finest gospel music singer there has ever been". That commentary could have caused some envy in Elvis Presley, since he loved singing gospel music. But Calvin's range and unique vocal ability set him apart from the vocalists of all genres.
Calvin is an unique individual whose extraordinary life has had many twists and turns including one that landed him in prison. A gospel music singer in prison? Yes, something awfully wrong brought Calvin Newton to unimaginable depths, but by the grace of God and a good woman named, Joyce, now his wife, Calvin made a miraculous come back. The Sons of Song, the first trio in the gospel music business, were so exciting that no one wanted to follow them on stage. Someone noted that, "The Sons were so hot that other groups were afraid of melting in their tracks".
Calvin Newton, Bob Robinson and Don Butler had it all. Talent, charisma, movie star good looks and unbelievable stage presence. I suppose it is possible to be too blessed for your own good. But this first trio in gospel music was a force to be reckoned with. Their first public appearance was the result of actually begging to get on stage during the intermission of another group's concert. As soon as they started singing, people stopped, turned and hurried back to their seats, spell bound. They knew they were hearing something wonderfully different from anything they'd ever heard before. The concessioners brought a law suit against the promoter because they sold hardly anything during intermission that night. That was the beginning of a career that sky rocketed the Sons of Song to fame.
Calvin Newton's life is a great example of how it is not possible for someone to fall so far from grace that they can't be retrieved by God's saving grace. |

Guilty! I have been posting a link to Sarah Palin's Face Book account several times a day. I am pretty sure Sarah is ok with it. And I can see no problem since it is her tribute song. The response to, "Thunder Rolls", a song I wrote before the '08 election, has been very good. The song extols the virtues of Sarah and the lack of virtue in the way she was treated by the left, before and during the presidential campaign and election. And, of course, the attacks never ceased. They are still going after her with as much malice today, as before.
As with anyone's FB account, there are a few critics and detractors- and even some "fringers". However, the overwhelming majority of Sarah's visitors are so thankful for her and all she stands for it would make the MSMs' collective heads spin. Qualities like her integrity and bold stand for what is right and good for America are what matter most to these Conservatives, Republicans and Independents. I don't know how true it is, but some of the posters say they were Democrats, but have changed because of Sarah. It is truly amazing how many people love, support and are so desperate for her to run for president in 2012.
Many of the comments reflect the fear so many have about America's future. There is major distrust of the current administration and it's over reaching policies. There is a ground swell of resistance that transcends party affiliation. There is also a certain desperation and worry that the greatest country on Earth is about to be turned into a country we won't recognize as America any more. And I share their concern. Sarah is truly a fine example and roll model for our nation and women everywhere.
I intend to write another more current song about/for Sarah at some point. . |
