I reiterate that John McCain, as lackluster as he is, is the best of the choices for our next president. I wanted Mitt Romney, but we’ve been given, “The Survivor” Hopefully, he’ll have the good gumption to choose someone as capable as Mitt, preferably, Mitt Romney himself, as his running mate. So nettlesome to Conservatives is that he too often sides with the Left. He can’t decide whether to run with the hare or the hound, so to speak. And his stance on many issues is distinctly too liberal for most Conservatives’ taste. So, it certainly isn’t a foregone conclusion, at this juncture, that they will be able to hold their noses and vote for him come November. Woe is us! The only consoling thought in this dilemma is that if (God forbid) Obama or Hilliary should win, the blow wouldn’t be all that  surprising. Painful, yes, but not devastatingly  surprising. After all, it is clear that the only choices are 1-Democrat or 2-Democrat Lite.

On the standard fare like border security, global warming, water-boarding, drilling for our own oil, etc. there are vast differences between John McCain’s beliefs and those of true Conservatives. But on the more important issues, we agree. His pick of Conservative judges, maintaining lower taxes and not foolishly pulling out of Iraq before victory is won, as Obama and Hillary have promised to do, make him light years ahead of his opponents. And I’m pretty sure he isn’t for tax payer funded  abortions, including full term abortions,  like Hillary and Obama. He seems something of a weasle, though, when he criticizes those who tell the truth about his opponents. He had no business telling his North Carolina supporters to take down the ad in which Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s association with Obama was the subject. That seemed a little too ,”noble” as in, “Thou protesteth too much”. Why would he not like the truth be told about his opponent-especially, when he doesn’t even have to do it? Sounds unlikely to me.

He now has started distancing himself from President Bush while he says he stands on principle. That’s the same, “Principle” as shown by those Democratic rats deserting Hillary’s sinking ship. Those now scurrying over to the Obama boat, piling on top of each other, hoping for some slot in an Obama administration. While Hillary’s ship has gone down, she is still doggedly paddling to the distant shore. Albeit, West Virginia did pitch her a small piece of flotsam on which to cling. I guess hope is the last of the emotions to drown. I wonder if the Clintons know something we don’t–about Obama, that is?

Now, why on earth does this supposedly seasoned, sensible and honorable American patriot, John McCain, carry a rabbit’s foot, among other good luck charms, around with him!? Does he really believe that compost about, “Charms” bringing good luck? Does he consult fortune tellers, too? I imagine he’s big on astrology and reads his horoscope every day. (Hey, what’s his sign, anyway?) Will he say he was just lucky rather than, “blessed” if he wins the presidency? To each his own, of course, but it strikes me as superficially foolish as it is superstitious. I had similar sentiments about Nancy Reagan when I learned she was a star gazer. Wisdom is supposed to come with age, but sometimes age shows up all by itself.
