"Downtown Merry-Go-Round"

I was on my way to my car when I heard
A musical sound that gently stirred
My heart with delight and I wanted to go
Right back there to where
That wonderful sound was coming from
So I took myself back to where I found
A sparkling load of laughing cargo going ’round

I was born to Robert L. Clark and Edith Keefauver Clark and was the third of four daughters. I grew up near historic Jonesborough, TN, the oldest town in Tennessee and home of the nationally known annual Story Telling events.
PattiI graduated from Jonesborough High School and  East Tennessee State University with a degree in elementary education. Following graduation, I taught grades 2-4 in the Washington County School system prior to moving to the Southwest.

Having always been interested in music and art, I tried out my song writing skills at the Los Angeles Palomino Club. That moderate success encouraged me to focus more on songwriting.

Soon thereafter, I relocated to Phoenix, Arizona and began substitute teaching and also rekindled an interest in art. There was a noteworthy, odd and humorous circumstance which necessitated this renewed interest. The early days of substitute teaching in the Phoenix inner city schools were difficult and work was hard to come by. Rent was soon due and I was broke. With pencil and pad in hand, I went to the nearest mall where I ended up in the Penny's shoe department and proceeded to do quick 3-5 minute sketches of willing, though somewhat mystified, subjects. Management was kind and I sold enough sketches to bail me out and I have never been broke again. I could have called home or borrowed money from friends, but then I would have missed this realization of self reliance. Many pastel portraits and drawings of the local populace and Native Americans followed that invaluable experience. I became increasingly aware of the value of self reliance in creative expression as well as in areas of personal responsibility.

I met and married Stan Barnett while living in Phoenix. We moved to Nashville, TN then to New Haven, CT as he pursued his educational goals. His career in pharmaceutical research has brought us to North Wales, PA.

Since living in Pennsylvania, I have released two CDs, "West of Scottsdale" and "Until Then". I write from a personal perspective on many social, moral and religious issues as well as on topical subjects. Many patriotic songs have been written since 9-11 and the Iraq war. I'm grateful for the appreciative acknowledgements from President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Governor Bush for some of these songs. My concern for America's future is reflected in, "An American Prayer". Some of the "Selected Post 9-11" songs are posted on the website. Since they are not yet Nashville productions, I hope you will focus on the intended messages, "Until Then".
